Keep Eco-Friendly and Cool at The Crossing this Summer

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

Chilling out in our fantastic green apartments in Anaheim is a great way to spend the summer. Just because it is hot outside doesn’t mean that you can’t cool off at The Crossing and help the environment out at the same time.

Here are some quick and easy tips to help you keep you cool without setting fire to your energy bills.

  • Open the windows and turn on the ceiling fans instead of turning on the A/C.
  • Use shades and curtains to block sunlight during the day, then open them at night to allow cool air to circulate freely throughout your apartment.
  • Check for air leaks around windows and doors to make sure that when you do turn the A/C on, the air inside doesn’t escape your apartment.
  • Turn off the lights, appliances, and electronic devices you are not using.
  • Check your thermostat, and remember to adjust it for the times when you’ll be home and the times you’ll be away. After all, there’s no need to cool your apartment when no one will be home.

Do you have your own eco-friendly energy savings tips? Share them with us on Facebook! We’d love to hear from you.

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

With the summer coming up quickly and beaches already prepping for the season ahead, you might be considering getting healthy and ready for the beach season.

Even though you might currently be in the process of dropping those winter pounds, health is more important than looking good in your swimsuit.

If your goal is to focus on healthy living in Anaheim, one healthy thing you can do today is swap out the java for fresh juice.

In recent years, juice bars have taken hold in the area, and they have delicious offerings but haven’t completely converted the caffeine-dependent residents of our fine community.

This is the season when you should take control of your coffee cravings and swap it out for a juice. You can get the same morning kick from a perfectly blended juice drink as you get from your morning coffee.

If you are looking to kick your java habit, hit up one of the terrific juice bars in the area. Juice It Up on East Catella Avenue and Robeks in Fullerton the perfect spot for a morning pick-me-up; plus, you won’t have to wait in the Starbucks line! Jamba Juice seems to be on every corner, and Nekter Juice Bar at Anaheim Hills features green, glowing juice combos that can flush toxins and naturally cure your ailments.

yoga poses for abs

Try holding the boat pose in our yoga studio for a tighter core.

Summer is coming around, and you’re ready to look your best but your stomach isn’t quite cooperating. Here are some yoga poses for abs that will have you looking great for the warm weather.

The warrior 3 pose requires you to use your abs to keep balance. With your feet together, you spread your arms out to form a T. Then you bend forward at the hips lifting a leg straight behind you, drawing your navel towards your spine. Hold for five breaths and then repeat with the other leg.

There’s the boat pose, sitting, feet together and off the floor with shins parallel to the ground and arms stretched out in front of you at shoulder height. When you’re in this pose, rock your arms in feet in opposite directions 10 times to work on your abs.

Standing hand to big toe d is also great. Stand with both feet together and hands on your hips. Inhale and raise right leg with shoulders directly over hips and left leg. Hold for five breaths and repeat with left leg.

The Crossing even has an onsite yoga studio for you to use to get slim. Try these yoga poses for weight loss, too!

bicycles on Metrolink

Bring your bike on the Metrolink to get around.

Getting outside and bicycling in Anaheim is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the beautiful California sunshine. Since this has become such a popular activity, the team at Metrolink has decided to make it easier than ever before to ride the train and bring your bike with you.

To accommodate the growing number of cyclists in the area, Metrolink has added several cars specifically designed to hold up to 18 bikes at a time. Furthermore, they’re making sure that a large number of their trains will always have a bike car attached so you won’t have to wait too long for the right train to arrive.

Of course, if you would rather leave your bike at the station, they offer ample bike racks and even a smattering of bike lockers for your convenience. These are similar to the ones that we have here at The Crossing apartments. All of this means that you can bike and ride with the knowledge that you’re getting healthy while helping keep the environment just a little bit cleaner.

Are you already using the bike trains offered by Metrolink? If you are, then get on Facebook and tell us about your experience, and don’t forget to use your rewards for riding Metrolink!

5 Ways to Save Money on Vet Expenses in Anaheim

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

When your pet has to visit the vet, it can be a rather unpleasant experience to pay the bill. Here are some easy ways that you can save money on vet expenses that will help ease the pain.

  1. Stay on top of regular check-ups. This will allow you to catch any problems before they become serious health issues.
  2. Spay or neuter your pets. Unless you’re planning on becoming a professional breeder, a litter of puppies or kittens can be a handful to pay for.
  3. Keep your pet healthy. Exercise, a healthy diet, and plenty of rest are not just good suggestions for humans.
  4. Consider pet health insurance. While the quality of vet care has increased dramatically, so too has the price of this care. If your pet is prone to health conditions, this could be a wise investment.
  5. Get your pet vaccinated. Follow the protocols for your pet’s breed, and follow your vet’s advice in this regard.

At our pet-friendly apartments in Anaheim, we know our residents love their pets and want to keep them healthy. Share your tips for keeping your pets healthy with us on Facebook.
