New Years Eve 2010-2011 in Orange County California. Do you know what you’re doing? Are you staying in your Anaheim apartment or maybe you’re traveling?

If you are staying around, here are some events that are going on:

1. 80s Prom NYE. Alex’s Bar will host this 80s event for $10.
2. New Years Eve Masquerade. Four-course meal, or complimentary appetizers. Live music, dancing and a champagne toast at The Winery Restaurant.
3. New Years Eve Aboard The Queen Mary. Five different parties–jazz, dueling pianos, Big Band, Disco and an all-night local DJ set.
4. New Years Eve Extravaganza. Celebrate with laughter at The Laugh Factory.
5. New Years Eve at Haven Gastropub. The event for the foodies.

The Anaheim Public Utilities headquarters recently earned a gold-level recognition in Energy and Efficiency and Design.

We at The Crossing Anaheim apartment community support their green efforts, especially considering we recently received a gold-level LEED recognition of our own.

The refurbishments for our city’s utilities began their refurbishments in 2007. They’ve used recycled materials, special paint, and wood from providers that practice sustainable forestry methods.

These practices will save the city money. On their website they give lots of tips for going green. Since we’re a green living community, we hope you’ll check out these tips and use them in your own apartment.

3 Green Tips for Your Apartment

• If you’re not using a room, close the doors and vents so that you don’t waste energy heating or cooling it.
• Surf the Internet later at night or in early morning when the demand for electricity is lower.
• Unplug small household appliances when not in use.

The Crossing Anaheim is an eco-friendly apartment community–something you most likely know if you live here. We’re smoke-free, we use dimmer lights and so much more. We could talk about it all day, but we’re happy to report that we’ve received some surprising recognition for being a green community.

Our apartments are now LEED certified and we received a gold level certificate from the United States Green Building Council. Why is this so great? Because we only expected to be recognized at the silver level.

The Crossing Anaheim is healthier for our residents and better for the environment.

The following items were highlighted in our application:

• commuter-friendly location
• the urban infill / reuse site selection
• the use of green building materials
• the 94-percent diversion rate by which 7,952 tons of demolition and construction waste was recycled
• the donation of excavated sandy soils to the city for improvements made to the nearby Santa Ana River bed
• policies aimed at promoting better health

We’re very excited about this news, and hope continue with our sustainable efforts.

UPCOMING EVENT: The Living Room- A Holiday Party to provide a Better Holiday to Those in Need

Hosted by your neighbors, Chad & Crystal Berg, this Holiday Event gives us all a cause to Party with Purpose, and the Reason is the Season of Giving!

This Thursday, December 9^th, this seasonal event will kick off at 6:30pm and go until 10pm in the evening, and feature Live Music, Hors d’oeuvres, Beverages, and Holiday Spirit. So, come with your Holiday Cheer! In addition, our party will support the Rescue Mission of Orange County to provide a warm Holiday Meal to the less privileged, including single mothers and children, homeless youth, and many other members of Orange County’s family who may go hungry. This is why we say it’s Partying with a Purpose!

Come join us as we gather to Celebrate the Season, Meet our Neighbors, and Care for Those in Need!

Again this event will be on Thursday, December 9^th and held in The Crossing Clubhouse. Please RSVP to ensure we have enough of the good stuff to go around, and feel free to invite your friends and family as well.

The Orange County Register confirms that Chris & Pitt’s in Anahiem will close its doors on Dec. 31. This is its last location in our county. Are you a fan of this BBQ chain?

On Yelp, the restaurant has three stars. People have comments, such as “huge portions,” “There’s a ridiculous amount of meat on each rib!!” and “this place is a hole… a time warp of a hole.”

If you don’t think this place should go away, you can join the Facebook group called, “PLEASE DONT CLOSE DOWN CHRIS N PITTS -ANAHEIM!” It has almost 700 members right now.

In its place, on Euclid Street, a fast food place is likely to open up. Jollibee is its name, and it is known for its fried chicken plate called Chickenjoy.

This place is about seven miles away from where you rent.
